The huge beams used to build the Bingham Cabin are from tulip poplar, the state tree of Indiana. The tulip poplar, Liriodendron tulipifera, is Native to North America and common in the United States east of the Mississippi. This fast growing, hardwood tree can grow up to 190 feet and is ideal for timber use. The tree is decorated with multicolor blossoms starting in April and the leaves turn yellow in the fall.
