These dolls are from the 1910s. Dolls from this time are usually made of bisque or composite (mix of wood pulp, glue, and paper bits). Composite dolls were cheaper and easier to make and were more durable then bisque dolls, this made bisque dolls comparatively rare and expensive and not every child was able to have one.

 

The average child during the early 1800s did not have many toys. Many children made their own toys; by carving wooden items or sewing dolls clothing, children were developing skills that they would use later in life.
