These containers were used by
early Monroe County settlers for storage of liquids and food items.
Some of the History Center’s ceramic vessels were locally made by
Hendricksville Pottery. Hendricksville, named after the Hendricks
family, is located just 20 minutes west of Bloomington in nearby Green
County. The pottery shop was in operation from the early to late 1800s
with descendants of the original craftsmen (surnames: Hamm, Hendricks,
Taylor and Wahl) still living here today.
