General Information
The Library of the Monroe County History Center specializes in the
Genealogy and History of Monroe County Indiana and is the single most
complete repository concerning our county's genealogy. It is home of
the Monroe County Historical Society, the Ninth Chapter of the
Indiana
Genealogical Society.
The following data are available, mostly in the original books:
- complete 19th century land and mortgage records with a
grantor/grantee sale index available through 1863 on the internet (example
page)
- complete 19th century probates
- an in-progress 19th and early 20th century newspaper clipping
file,
- WPA birth, marriage, & death records
- all other marriage records, census & tax records
- cemetery committee cemetery inventories
- a published genealogy index
- 20th century information is also available.
Much of this information is made available for searching on
in-house computers and the Internet.
Open stacks contain 1,500 volume library of genealogical reference
books, with an
on-line catalog.

A metered lot directly east (behind the main entrance) of the History
Center can be used. |
Due to limited use we close the
Genealogy Library on Sundays. If you are from out of town and have
special requirements on your visiting, it is suggested you call the
library 812.355.5588, or the museum office 812.332.2517 during normal
open hours, or email the Museum Office
or the Library Director
and make special arrangements.
