To simply review the contents of the archives by date open the
Monroe
County List Server. Per Randi's suggestion, to search the INMONROE archives go to
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/
and click on Monroe as a link in the box labeled "Counties, Boroughs and Districts." Another screen will open. From that screen select "Search the INMONROE Archives." If you would like the foregoing spelled out in
detail, read Randi's page of suggestions on how to proceed.
What I do is go directly to
http://lists5.rootsweb.com/index/usa/IN/monroe.html. At this point I usually choose "Search the InMonroe Archives" located near the bottom of the display. You may have to scroll down a little bit. I click on that and up comes the search engine. From there I can enter most any piece of text that pertains to my search target, regardless of what it might be: name, location, organization, etc. At the time of writing this there are five years to select that must be searched separately. One can find everything here that has been entered on the list. Various volunteers have used the list as a repository for death notices, newspaper clippings, articles from books, etc. What this means is that you can find actual information instead of just questions and single answers to the questions. The information has been entered pretty much as a giant jumble of Monroe County information by some truly dedicated volunteers, but it
has the saving grace that it call all be sorted out and searched in this format
with a very powerful search engine.
