Projects in and Around Monroe County

  • Veterans - The Monroe County Historical Society Museum is starting a project to record the military experiences of Monroe County veterans in cooperation with the Library of Congress project to collect oral histories of war veterans. Program coordinators have a special interest in those who served in World Wars I & II, Korea and Vietnam, as well as Somalia, Desert Storm and Bosnia. Interviews are not limited to combat veterans, but include those who served in a support role. H.M.  "Bud" Lynch, a Monroe County native who served in the Army during Vietnam will conduct interviews at the Monroe County Historical Museum. Men and women interested in sharing their memories should call 332.2517 to set up appointments.

  • Monroe County Civil War Roundtable. The Roundtable normally meets the third Tuesday of the month in the Monroe County History Center, at 6th and Washington.
